An engraved gift is one where the message is part of the object: cut into brass, etched into glass, burnt into bamboo or stamped into silver. It is the difference between a present and a keepsake. This guide covers the types we sell, how to match a piece to the occasion, what the materials mean, how the engraving is done and what to check before you order.

Why engraving matters

Most gifts are used up or put away. A piece with the right words on it is different. It gets kept on a desk, a bench or a bedside table, and every time the person sees it they see the message. That is why engraved gifts are the usual choice for the occasions people remember: a milestone birthday, a wedding, a retirement, a confirmation, Mother's Day, Father's Day and a memorial.

Everything we sell comes with the engraving already done, as photographed. There is no text box at checkout. That means no spelling risk, no waiting on a workshop, and you can read the exact words before you pay.

The five types of engraved gift we sell

Keepsakes and compasses. Brass compasses with a verse or a poem, a crystal heart and a glass plaque, engraved wallet cards for Dad, a son or a milestone birthday, a trophy, a pen and a pair of baby keepsake boxes. The classic pick for a confirmation, an anniversary or a family birthday.

Glassware. A stemless set with an etched pattern, a whisky tumbler engraved for a father-in-law, a pair of engraved brass goblets and a pair of engraved steel wine glasses. Capacity is listed per product.

Jewellery and keyrings. Steel keyrings with a short message for Dad or an 18th birthday, a pocket hug token, a leather bracelet for a son, a Lord's Prayer cross necklace and a book necklace for a granddaughter. Metal and size are listed per product.

Home and bar gifts. Bamboo chopping boards engraved for Dad, an aunt or Grandma, engraved spoons, a ring dish for a 10th anniversary, a wooden ring box, a music box and a trinket box.

Memorial keepsakes. Small keepsake urns, engraved with a tree of life or finished with a floral design, for holding a small portion of ashes close, and a guardian angel crystal ball.

Match the piece to the person and the occasion

Start with the words, not the object. Read the engraving in the product photos and ask whether the person would say it, or want it said to them. A funny line suits an 18th; a verse suits a confirmation; a plain "Best Dad" suits most dads. Then pick the object they will actually use or display: a spoon for someone who lives on coffee, a glass for someone who hosts, a compass for someone who likes a desk piece.

What the materials mean

Brass. Heavy, warm and ages to a soft patina. Used for the compasses. The engraving is cut into the metal and will not wear off.

Stainless steel. The keyring, wallet card, necklace and spoon metal. It does not tarnish and takes a crisp engraving. The product page states the metal and the size.

Bamboo and timber. The keepsake urn, the chopping boards, the ring box and the music box. Laser engraving burns the design into the surface, so it is darker than the wood and permanent.

Glass and crystal. Etched or laser engraved, the lettering is frosted into the surface. Most engraved glasses are dishwasher safe, and the page says if a piece is hand wash only.

Leather. The braided bracelet and the compass cases. Leather softens and darkens with use.

How the engraving is done

Laser engraving is the usual method for bamboo, glass, acrylic and steel: a fine, repeatable cut that gives clean lettering. Brass compasses and steel spoons are machine or hand engraved. Either way the words are in the material, not printed on it, so they do not rub off.

Check before you order

Read the wording and make sure it is the wording you want, because that is what arrives. Check the size, since a 60 mm crystal ball and a 520 ml wine glass are very different gifts. Check the metal if the person has sensitive skin. Check the delivery window against the date you need it by, and email us first if it is tight.

Delivery and returns

Many of our pieces ship direct from supplier warehouses in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, so including handling most orders arrive within 7 to 14 working days of the order date, tracked. Delivery is free on orders of $175 or more. If the gift is not right, return it within 14 days of delivery, unused and in its packaging, for a full refund.
